  • Current NYS employee in the Psychiatrist 1 or 2 title or eligible for transfer as determined by the Department of Civil Service.
OR

  • Po! ssession of a license to practice medicine in New York State; AND
Completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for entrance into its examination; AND

Eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare Programs

The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform.

Duties Description

Under the direction of a higher level psychiatrist or physician, will provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate individuals and assign appropriate diagnosis.
  • Make appropriate treatment recommendations.
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications that are safe and effective.
  • Design and maintain multiple-drug class treatments.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of psychotropic medications.
  • Monitor individuals for untowa! rd side effects of medications.
  • Maintain the timeline! ss of individual prescriptions.
  • Perform second psychiatric opinions by referral of other psychiatrists.
  • Order and review laboratory testing relating to psychiatric care.
  • Monitor potential drug-drug interactions between medical specialist’s treatments.
  • Triage of emerging urgent psychiatric needs and urgent care provision.
  • Liaison with community neurologists, internists, patient families, consent committees.
  • Complete forms and requests for specialized transportation, job training, sexual consent, medical consent, guardianship and program attendance.
  • Review and authorize all clinic site Treatment Plans.
  • Review clinic referrals requiring psychiatric services.
  • Consult with all clinic staff, service coordinators, residential staff and agency administrators relating to the care of individuals.
  • Participate in weekly meetings involving a review of individual’s care.
